Does this presume that others are always wrong?

I don’t think Sartre was implying that what other people think of us is unimportant or even wrong. In this instance I think the implication is that in order to live with authenticity we need to wipe the slate clean & begin from the beginning. Tabula Rasa. In the end, authentic selfhood needs to be defined on one’s own terms & not fall prey to the whims of others.

But then I chose this quote because I knew it would generate discussion. So discuss!
