Cut that hair!

I love my hairdresser. I really do! I look forward to every trip to the salon with eager anticipation. We share stories & cups of tea & I always have a really good time. On top of that, I always leave with a totally awesome haircut! Today I payed a trip to my lovely hairdresser. I’ve worked my way through several hairdressers though, both fabulous & lousy, till I found this gem of woman; Shannon Lanchester. She & her mother run the Hair Hub Studio here in Brisbane on Waterworks Road & I totally recommend getting your next haircut from them! To make sure that we have a really good time I sometimes bring something sweet to share, like biscuits or cupcakes! Sometimes I bring along a good book, which is just the thing if I’m not feeling too sociable. But to make sure that every haircut is just the way I like it, Shannon suggests that I bring in pictures.

Inspirational haircuts from lovely ladies

Clara Bow, Louise Brooks & Colleen Moore

Don’t they look gorgeous? I spent the good half of a day trawling through Silent Ladies & Gents & Silver Screen Sirens for delicious black & white photography to share. Louise Brooks is most often credited with the creation of the bob haircut, or at least making it sensationally popular. The bob, along with stockings, boyish figures & an insouciant attitude, became one of the identifiers of the flapper, the quintessential carefree girl of the 1920s. Before then, women would go to a hairdresser to have their long locks dressed or styled. When the bob hairstyle became popular many women flocked to barbershops instead, as hairdressers did not have the necessary experience to cut hair. Nowadays, hairdressing and haircutting are pretty much synonymous.

This is not a new style for me. I’ve had this particular style of cut for a while & it suits me just fine! But when I first when to get it cut this way I terribly nervous as this is about the shortest my hair has ever been. Not to worry, armed with the above photographs, it was blast & here’s proof!

Before the cut!
